Exploring Inland Ibiza

Ibiza_Countryside

Ibiza isn’t all about clubs, beaches and water sports. Behind the busy coastline a short drive from your exclusive villa Ibiza lies a Mediterranean wilderness dotted with picturesque villages just waiting to be explored.

Here is our guide to the inland villages not to be missed when holidaying in a villa in Ibiza to rent:-

San Jose is the largest of Ibiza’s inland villages and commands a majestic position high in the hills at the base of the island highest point – Sa Talia. The pretty village boasts a wide selection of amenities with the 18th century church being at the centre of village. There are a large number of cafes, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes, and one to be recommended is ‘Raco Verde’, where live music is played.

San_Rafael_Church San Rafael is situated almost bang in the middle of the island, between Ibiza Town and San Antonio. Like all Ibiza villages it is dominated by its late 18th Century church with amazing views all the way down to Ibiza Town’s harbor.

The village comes alive at night and is home to some excellent restaurants and bars where you can sit and wile the hours away before heading back to your exclusive villa Ibiza. The village is also home to the island’s Hippodrome, where you can watch trotting races.

Santa Gertrudis, also located in the centre of the island, is just about as far away from the sea as you can get get. The centre of this peaceful village is a no-go area for cars, and the main square is dotted with studios and galleries.

•San Carlos is a small village located a short distance from Santa Eulalia, not far from some of our villas in Ibiza to rent. One of the village’s claim to fame today is that is it home to Anita’s bar, one of Ibiza’s original hippy bars. The village is also close to many popular beaches such as Auga Blancas, Cala Llenya and Cala Mastella, as well as being the site at which the Saturday Las Dalias market is held.

Ibiza_flowers San Mateo is a charming hamlet near the northern coast, surrounded by mountains which end in rugged cliff tops, giving spectacular views of the Mediterranean. A sprinkling of houses surround the 18th century church but there is not much more to this village than complete peace and quiet, stunning countryside and sweet-smelling pines.

Santa Agnes, again in the north of the island and a short drive from most of our villas in Ibiza to rent, is one of the country’s best conserved villages. The coast can only be reached by driving through winding countryside and only then will you find huge cliffs. This valley is particularly spectacular in February when the almond trees are in blossom.
