Relaxing on a comfortable sun-lounger within easy reach of the glistening swimming pool in your villa in Ibiza to rent is clearly a priority for most. But the magical island bathed in sun also has a host of interesting museums on tap for those after a bit of culture. Here is our guide to Ibiza’s most fascinating museums:

Museo Arquelogic, Place de la Catedral, Ibiza. Tel: +34 971 301771. This fascinating museum housed within the Salvador Chapel in Ibiza Town is well worth the trip from any of our houses to rent in Ibiza.  It contains a significant collection of prehistoric artefacts and relics from the Carthaginian, Phoenician, Roman and the Moorish eras. Items displayed in the impressive building which was once the seat of Ibiza’s government  include ancient tombstones, small statues, coins, glass and ceramics items.

 • Museo de Arte Contemporáneo MAC (Contemporary Art Museum), Ronda Narcis Puget Viñas, Ibiza. Tel: +34 971 302723. The Museum of Contemporary Art, located in the historic quarter of Ibiza town, exhibits a collection of work which brilliantly shows the artistic creativity that emerged on the island in the 60s. The museum, situated within an easy drive from our villas in Ibiza to rent includes work by Tapies and Miralles, as well as other less known artists of the Balearic Islands.

Museu_ArquelogicGaleria Van der Voort, Plaza de Vila, Ibiza. Tel: +34 971 300649. The Galeria Van der Voort is one of the best art galleries on Ibiza containing many important and impressive work of art and photographs.

The Sea Museum, La Casa del Mar, Paseo Juan Carlos II. This small museum on the sea front near the Marina Botafoch, in the Port of Ibiza, is a unique centre of excellence which is highly recommended. The museum recounts the special relationship between Ibiza and the fishing industry, and its’ staff are charming founts of knowledge.

Necropolis_Ibiza Necropolis Puig Des Molins, Via Romana, 31, Ibiza Town. This museum might sound slightly too morbid for a luxury holiday in a villa in Ibiza to rent, but it makes for a fascinating day out.  The island’s cemetery from the time of the Occidental Phoenicians until the end of the VII century BC, it boasts more than 3,000 excavated tombs. It’s actually the largest preserved necropolis in the Mediterranean.

The Ethnological Museum of Ibiza, Puig de Missa, Santa Eulalia. Tel: +34 71 33 28 45. This gem is a living museum located in an old restored 'finca'. It tells the story of the local people and how they lived before the arrival of the hippy culture. Take a walk back in time before heading home to your contemporary house to rent in Ibiza.
